I am writing to ask you to help children like John, who through no fault of his own, found himself living on the streets of Lusaka. Every day John and others are given food, shelter, education and love at Fountain of Hope.

All Star Kids, supporting Fountain of Hope, is helping some of the 13,000 children who end up living on the streets in Lusaka. Fountain of Hope is a drop in and residential centre for street children.

John is 13, he had been living on the streets for 3 years after his parents split up. Fending for himself, his life became trapped in a cycle of child labour, drugs and petty crime. John started to visit the Fountain of Hope drop in centre, where he was able to take a shower, have something to eat and talk to someone who was concerned about him. After a while he began to trust the team and decided to live at the residential centre – now he has a safe place to call home, regular meals, education and a bright future.

Every day the centre helps over 400 children – on top of the 40 boys who live there. For the last few weeks the centre have been cooking food for the children on charcoal as the cookers have broken. Imagine cooking food for all these children on a small charcoal burner – not only difficult but expensive. Picture coming to a drop in centre to find the centre struggling to provide you with a meal. In the long term we want to raise £2500 to overhaul the whole kitchen and garden facilities at the centre. This will enable the centre to grow their own food to provide for hundreds of children.

In the short term, unless we are able to raise the funds needed to fix the cooker I am not sure how Fountain of Hope will be able to continue the feeding programme for these street children.
